  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract (non-alcoholic alternative)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup whole milk (adjust for desired consistency)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • Fondant or edible glitter for decoration

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C)
  • Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl
  • Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy
  • Add eggs one at a time, blending thoroughly
  • Mix in vanilla extract
  • Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients
  • Divide batter evenly among 3 8-inch round pans
  • Bake 30-35 minutes, or until golden and springy
  • Cool layers completely on wire racks
  • In a separate bowl, cream butter until smooth
  • Gradually add powdered sugar and salt
  • Beat in almond extract and 1/4 cup milk; adjust for consistency
  • Apply frosting between layers and top with final decorative touch using fondant or piping

Level cake layers by trimming tops with a serrated knife
