Equipment

  • teapot or cup
  • strainer if using loose flowers
  • kettle
  • spoon for mixing

Ingredients

  • 1-2 tsp dried butterfly pea flowers (or 1 tea bag)
  • 1 cup hot water (just below boiling)
  • lemon juice (optional)
  • honey or sweetener (optional)
  • fresh ginger (optional)

Instructions

  • Heat water to just below boiling (about 190–200°F) to keep the flavor smooth.
  • Add dried butterfly pea flowers to a cup or teapot.
  • Pour the hot water over the flowers and watch the deep blue color develop.
  • Let the tea steep for 5–7 minutes until the color is rich and fully developed.
  • Strain the flowers or remove the tea bag before serving.
  • Add a squeeze of lemon juice if desired to turn the tea from blue to purple.
  • Sweeten with honey or preferred sweetener if desired, then serve hot or over ice.

Notes

Use filtered water for the best flavor and color clarity. Add lemon juice for a bright taste and color change, or honey for sweetness. You can also serve it iced for a refreshing variation. Avoid over-steeping to keep the flavor smooth and mild.
