Equipment

  • slow cooker
  • mixing spoon
  • measuring cups
  • serving bowls

Ingredients

  • 2 cups old fashioned oats or steel cut oats
  • 4 cups milk or dairy free milk
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or brown sugar
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 banana sliced (optional)
  • 1 cup berries or chopped apples (optional)

Instructions

  • Lightly grease the inside of the slow cooker to help prevent sticking during overnight cooking.
  • Add the oats, milk, water, cinnamon, maple syrup or brown sugar, and salt directly into the slow cooker.
  • Stir everything gently until fully combined and evenly distributed.
  • Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat for 6 to 8 hours overnight until the oats become soft and creamy.
  • Add bananas, berries, or delicate fruits during the final hour of cooking for fresher flavor and better texture.
  • Stir the oatmeal again before serving and add extra milk if the oatmeal becomes thicker than desired.
  • Serve warm with your favorite toppings like bananas, berries, nuts, cinnamon, maple syrup, or peanut butter.

Notes

Use old fashioned oats for softer texture or steel cut oats for chewier consistency. Grease the slow cooker before cooking to prevent sticking. Add bananas or berries near the end of cooking for fresher flavor. Add extra milk before serving if the oatmeal becomes too thick.
