Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk (or oat milk for a dairy-free option)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 3 tablespoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup prepared tapioca pearls, cooked and chilled
  • Caramel or vanilla syrup for flavoring (optional, 2–3 tablespoons)
  • Ice cubes, as needed

Instructions

  • In a medium pot, bring 2 cups milk, 1/2 cup heavy cream, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon sea salt to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  • Stir continuously until the sugar dissolves and the mixture thickens slightly, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Remove from heat, stir in 3 tablespoons of vanilla extract and any syrup (caramel or vanilla, optional). Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then transfer to the refrigerator and chill for at least 1 hour.
  • Meanwhile, prepare the tapioca pearls according to the package instructions or your favorite recipe. Drain, rinse with cold water, and chill until ready to use.
  • Once the milkshke base is chilled, blend it with a few handfuls of ice until smooth and cold.
  • Place a handful of chilled tapioca pearls into a glass. Pour the boba milkshake over the pearls and serve immediately.

Notes

For the best flavor and texture, use whole milk or a high-quality plant-based alternative like oat or almond milk.
Chill the milk mixture thoroughly for a thick, creamy texture.
Add extra flavors like cocoa, matcha powder, or fresh fruit puree for unique twists.
