Ingredients

  • 1 whole chicken (3–4 lbs), thawed and cleaned
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • lemon slices (optional)
  • fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 360°F and let it heat for 3–5 minutes.
  • Pat the chicken completely dry. Rub olive oil all over and season evenly with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika.
  • Place the chicken breast-side down in the air fryer basket.
  • Cook for 30–35 minutes.
  • Flip the chicken carefully using tongs so it is breast-side up.
  • Continue cooking for another 25–30 minutes until the skin is golden and crispy.
  • Check that the internal temperature reaches 165°F in the thickest part of the thigh.
  • Let the chicken rest for 5–10 minutes before carving and serving.

Notes

For best results, always pat the chicken completely dry before seasoning. You can customize flavors with lemon, herbs, or spices like cayenne. Make sure the chicken fits comfortably in your air fryer to allow proper air circulation. Let the chicken rest 5–10 minutes before carving to retain juices.
